Are You Using SEO To Attract More Customers

by Author on Jun.13, 2009, under Small Business

With the economic slowdown a reality now, businesses are examining their alternatives for getting more customers and more sales. The internet is one very big and obvious opportunity. But how does an offline business actually use the power of the worldwide web to enhance their bottom line?

Business owners want their names and websites to show on the first or second page of search engine results and that’s where SEO comes in.

SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization, and has become all the rage these days… for good reason.

Extra hits on a web web site means more traffic. More traffic means increasing the chances of getting more sales. If a site appears on the first page of any popular search engine, and the introduction sounds promising, people will click through to the site.

Many companies want to maintain their position on search engines and are thus continually looking for SEO services to maintain the ranking. They feel that they can beat the recession by attracting more traffic to their web sites.

TWO TYPES OF SEO

Search engine optimizers basically use two approaches in optimizing web sites for customers. One method is called the ‘white hat’ approach and the other is called the ‘black hat’ approach. The white hat approach is the recommended approach. The white hat approach to SEO is legal and recognized by search engines.

Black hat tries to load web sites with irrelevant or hidden keywords to fool the search engine. Web sites using the black hat approach look for short term gains, and once discovered, the search engines ban these sites. That makes blackhat a hazardous game to play for any serious minded business man or woman.

SEO has assisted businesses that have relevant products but somehow were not able to attract customers. By applying appropriate SEO techniques and creating relevant inbound links, the traffic to these sites has been significantly increased.

If a company is wholly dependent for its business on the internet, then using SEO techniques is a must. However, if the web site only generates a small portion of the business, then it’s not so important — even though it can increase the traffic coming to your website.

SEO TECHNIQUES AND STRATEGIES

There are many different methods available to propel a site up in the search engines. Regrettably many SEO professionals are charging an arm and a leg when you hire them to increase your site’s rankings in the search engines.

Google Front Page

Two of the “simple secrets” to ranking higher on Google are… having unique, quality content along with high quality incoming links.

1. QUALITY CONTENT AT YOUR site

Nothing is more attractive to search engines than new, distinctive content published on your website. If you have a web site which provides a unique product or service and publishes unique content consistently on its blog, you can be sure that the search engines will look at you positively.

It is here that most affiliate websites face a very steep climb. Because their product and information is copied from another source, it is difficult (but not impossible) to rank higher. Affiliate websites normally gain rankings by having to spend a substantial amount on link building.

Unique content is very easy to publish if you tap into a new, profitable niche or if you successfully differentiate your business from your competitors. Because unique content is favored by the search engines, you can find articles, blog posts and free advice ranking much higher than a typical website homepage which provides the usual information.

If you manage to publish fine quality content, you have won half the SEO battle.

Google Page One

2. INBOUND LINKS

The second matter to attend to is link building. There is no question that links from high pagerank (PR) websites and pages are favored much more than links from low PR websites. Your focus should be to get links from established websites. One way to get these backlinks is through having a link exchange but that is time consuming. Another way is to pay for them but Google frowns on this – they prefer “natural” link building that happens over time as other webmasters see your web site and like it so they link to it.

High quality links go a long way in winning the SEO contest. Websites with as few as 200 links can rank higher in the SERPs (search engine results pages) than websites with thousands of links purely because they have a small amount of their links coming from very trust-worthy sources.

It is a good bet to start building high quality links as soon as your web site is up. In order to further maintain your rankings, starting a blog on your website and posting to it habitually is sure to help.

One final tip. By employing the services of an SEO expert, you can considerably speed up the process of gaining the needed backlinks. If you want to get on Google page one, it’s definitely something to think about.

Blog Farm Pro Review

by Author on May.31, 2009, under Blogging

Before we begin I will warn you that Blog Farm Pro is not for the feint of heart. You will need to be a fairly experienced web user to realise the full potential of this set of tools. In particular you will need to be familiar with the Web Host Manager/Cpanel software. Having said that, there are very useful screen capture videos detailing every major process so if you can learn, you can use BFP.

On to the review … rarely does a piece of software come along which gets my juices flowing like this fantastic offering from a couple of guys who’ve managed to create what is possibly the most powerful set of tools you could find online to help you profit from blogging.

In case you haven’t heard, blogging is all the rage. There are even recognized blog awards putting this modern age phenomenon firmly on the map as something which allows almost anyone the chance to express their opinion and strike up a dialogue with those of a like mind. Very simply, a blog is an online diary with the option of allowing the readers to comment on the entries posted by the blog owner. A blog is a great ‘community builder’.

Partly because of the social aspects involved, search engines absolutely love blogs and using them as a way to make money with programs like Google Adsense can be very profitable. Using the free blog software known as WordPress it is very easy to set yourself up with a blog, begin posting content and hopefully begin profiting from clicks on your Adsense.

Once you begin down this route you soon begin to realize that three or four blogs are simply not enough if you want to make good money with contextual advertising programs such as Adsense. This is where it comes down to numbers pure and simple. To make real money using this method you need to dramatically scale up the number of blogs you own.

An initial target would be seven hundred to one thousand WordPress blogs. With this in mind, once you see how long it takes to setup one blog (even though the install process is very simple) you will realize that it could take you a very long time to set up enough blogs to begin making good money. When we are talking these kinds of numbers the system is referred to as a blog farm. Using blog farms there are some very tidy incomes being earned online but it does take work.

For this reason, I was very excited when my friend introduced me to Blog Farm Pro. For a minimal investment you gain access to an exclusive membership site providing you with a comprehensive set of tools which enables you to build anywhere from ten to as many as three hundred blogs or more in one day. I haven’t tried to calculate the amount of time this site has saved me but I know we are talking days not hours.

Here’s a quick rundown of the main tools available to the Blog Farm Pro user.

Blog farm tools

* Blog Farm Creator
* Blog Farm Subdomain Creator
* Spider/Poster 1&2
* Pinger

Site building tools

* Domain Hosting Creator
* Subdomain Creator
* Content Manipulator
* Web Site Builder

Control tools

* Simple Cron Editor
* Advanced Cron Editor

Misc tools

* Article Regenerator – Single
* Quick Blog Creator
* Quick Database Creator
* Quick Cron Creator
* Quick Pinger
* List Shuffler

Everything has been specifically designed to run on Cpanel servers. If you are using any other kind of server software then Blog Farm Pro will be no good to you.

The blog farm tools are the core of the system. Here you can create multiple pre configured WordPress installations using randomly selected themes with custom plugins all of your choosing. Blogs can be created on top level domains or sub domains.

Blog Farm Pro sequentially works through your list of blogs to be created. It actually logs into your web host manager, creates the domain (or sub domain), database and WordPress installation all in one go … awesome! Once your blogs are created you can give the spider a list of web sites whereupon it will go off and spider those sites posting the content (with a link back) to your specified selection of blogs at a schedule determined by you. Doesn’t get much better than that.

The site building tools are also very useful. Here you can create multiple Cpanel domain hosting accounts and any number of sub domains. These tools dramatically increase the speed at which you can create your hosting accounts. If you have ever tried to sit down and create a thousand sub domains you will appreciate how useful these tools actually are.

With the content manipulator, site builder and FTP upload facility, Blog Farm Pro brings weblog/site-building on a massive scale easily within the reach of every web marketer.

The control tools allow you to set your schedules for spider posting and here you can also select the ping schedule. The pinger allows you to specify any number of blogs and ping them from a regularly updated rotating proxy IP list at a schedule you determine (phew!). Again, the seasoned Adsense blogger will absolutely love this feature.

The miscellaneous tools provide you with an article regenerator, single blog, database and cron creators a quick pinger and a list shuffler which are all very handy items to have in your toolbox. The owners of Blog Farm Pro are very responsive and you will always get an answer to any questions you may have on the forums.

I have used Blog Farm Pro enough to know that this is something I really cannot do without. If you want to build massive blog farms in a very short space of time then Blog Farm Pro is definitely worthy of further investigation. The amount of time this package saves you is enough to give you that competitive edge which you need to succeed in the Adsense blogging game.

Just imagine … you could easily build a thousand blogs in a week – hell you could build three thousand! Now if each one of those blogs only earns you one dollar per month then you would be making one thousand to three thousand dollars a month. Now we’re talking!

The idea behind Blog Farm Pro was actually not to create monetised blogs but to use your blog farms as a means of getting your money sites indexed in the engines. The theory goes: build your blog farms, build your sites, post your sites to your blog farms and watch the indexing happen. This works too and whichever way you decide to use BFP I’m sure you’ll quickly come to realise that here’s a set of tools you really need … like, yesterday!

New Web Search Engine Vmgo.com Update

by Author on May.15, 2009, under Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

I just wanted to let you all know that http://www.vmgo.com/ is doing especially well lately. The site is at the present a PR5 which means it’s gaining some popularity out there and people are supporting it.

Alexa.com is at the present ranking it at 65,353 nowadays so it finally made it into the top 100,000 most visited and has been there for roughly 2-3 months now. According to my own stats it is receiving around 10,000 page views a day which is pretty strong traffic so I had to move the site to it’s own dedicated server with the fastest central processing unit I could get and 4 gig of ram and 160 gig hard drive.

The hard drive was 80 gig before and the database took up the whole hard drive which is the main reason I moved the site. I expect to have to get an even bigger hard drive in one more year or so.

A large amount of the traffic it gets is from india in addition to saudi arabia but it does acquire 8.2% USA traffic which is up from the last update. I’m not positive why it got so all the rage with foreign countries but they seem to like it? I see they search for alot of porn type things. HAHA! Who’d of thought?

If you never heard of vmgo.com, you can read about how it works here
http://www.vmgo.com/webmasters.shtml
and
http://www.vmgo.com/about.shtml

I built it all myself about 4-5 years ago using bits and pieces of free scripts I found on the internet. It took me about 2 years of messing around with it to work out alot of bugs I had in the scripts and at this time it is streamlined and running smoothly.

The concept I had for it came from years of studying google and other search engines and how they ranked pages. I started out as a webmaster and then became a engine optimization professional and all my websites were ranking top of the results. I made alot of cash because of it.

But I like a respectable challenge so I determined to make my own search engine because at the time there were only a few major search engines out there that had their own database.

So I began studying the search engines and writing down all the troubles I had as a webmaster with the manner they ranked pages and their sluggishness at indexing pages in their index. Afterward I came up with ways to sort out those problems in my own search engine.

The first glitch I always had was slow indexing and position of pages. So, I designed vmgo.com so you can submit a page for the keyword you indicate and it would be indexed right away as soon as you hit the submit button. After that I made it so you can vote your page to the top of the results. Problem fixed. Immediate indexing and immediate #1 ranking. How simple is that right?

That fixed the whole link popularity crap, PR crap, sandbox, domain bans, etc…

Subsequently my next problem was how to fix the spam dilemma? So, I just put a “report spam” link next to each listing that immediately removes the link from the results until I check it out. I get an email that lets me know about it with a link to click that unbans the link if it’s not spam. If it is spam, I simply do nothing and that link remains in the database so we know that that url cannot be indexed ever again for that keyword. Effortless right?

Spam reports are very exact! People are remarkable at spotting it and don’t mind reporting it. They can’t stand it! HAHA!

The last problem I seen with google and others was, when you seek for something you may perhaps have to go through a couple pages of results before you achieve what you are looking for which is mildly bothersome.

Therefore, my fix was, when you come across what you are looking for and click the link, it votes for that page in the results and it moves up in the rankings so the next time you search for it, it will be higher and you won’t have to go 2-3 pages deep. There are also voting thumbs up and down to vote or demote the links. It’s a very effortless system of sorting the useful from the bad results.

I noticed google doing something related to this recently allowing people to vote by means of their new “search wiki” which is cool but it doesn’t help out everybody. It only helps you. Where vmgo’s results change for one and all, helping everybody.

Alot of people have told me that ultimately people will game the system which is doable but I really want them to game the system so they can be reported as spam and taken out of the results. Once they are reported as spam, they are banned from submitting that page to that keyword ever for a second time. Problem solved.

I see that it is a never ending ongoing work in progress but it’s amusing and keeps my brains busy for a little while every day.

If you want to help vmgo.com, please go to the webmasters page and copy a link to your site someplace or add a web search box to your site so people can search vmgo.com from your website. I would sincerely appreciate your support.

So You Wish To Become An Internet Entrepreneur?

by Author on May.05, 2009, under Online Business

When I first became excited by the prospect of starting an online business I had no idea of the difficulties and challenges I was about to face – all I visualised was all the money I was about to make, and I remember setting about my initial activities with all the gusto of the ignorant who blissfully enter into the forest without the first inkling of the dangers within. After all, I had been in IT for many years, and had successfully produced websites for others, promoting offline clients’ businesses online. So I approached Internet Marketing with confidence – how difficult could it be for someone as experienced as I?

The shocking truth was that I had much to learn, even given my existing knowledge, and now, after several years in the game – and it is a game, with constantly changing rules – I have understood what it takes:

Time

There is a saying I have always enjoyed – “If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment”. If you think you will be an overnight success, and of course I hope that you do, you may well be disappointed. In most cases, it takes time, as all things do that become sustainable. And it can eat up a lot of money while you’re investing that time. If you’re lucky, you’ll cover your costs right from the start. If not, be prepared to make some sacrifices in the short term…

Learning

Fact is, you are going to need a whole bunch of new skills that you will have to apply to this strange, virtual world. I had to learn sales copywriting – being a ‘techie’, I had never had to sell very much, and so it was a totally new process to me. It did not happen overnight – I made plenty of mistakes before finally discovering my own ’style’ which suited my personality, and with which I felt comfortable, but which was also effective with prospects. I also had to learn Internet Marketing Strategy, and had to keep up to date with changing trends in the marketplace. At the time of writing, Web 2.0 is all the rage, and Twitter and the social bookmarking sites are where you need to be if you want to promote successfully. Tomorrow, it will change, and you need to know about it. Learning never stops. Ever.

Determination

A healthy measure of stubbornness is very useful to anyone embarking on an Internet marketing career. I had a specific goal in mind when I started – I wanted to work from the comfort of home, my family of dogs around me all the time. I wanted to choose when I worked, how much I worked, and how I worked. I was simply not going to be satisfied until that was the case, and I was willing to do ‘whatever it takes’ to get there. Today, as my dogs wander in and out of my house on my farm while I sit here and type at my desk surrounded by computers, I am living the dream. But I had to go through many dark days, in which there were times when I was not sure I would survive, in order to get here. I failed many times, often not sure why, in other cases learning harsh lessons that would enable me to step up the next time. But I was determined to see it through. My persistence paid off.

The Internet, like any business environment, is complex and will challenge you every step of the way. But it is rewarding to an extent you will scarcely imagine when you first embark on the journey., both personally and financially. If you have the willingness to invest the time, learn everything you need to in order to succeed, and persist in the face of failure, the chances are you might become a successful Internet Entrepreneur. It really depends on you.
